This has long been considered my signature piece, a three-color double-knit hat with two radically different patterns on each side. Despite the complexity, it's not actually difficult, and has been tested by people who have never done double-knitting before with surprisingly good results.

However, I don't recommend this pattern for beginners as a rule — it definitely requires significant concentration and chart-following discipline.

The pattern in the book has been revised to work in sport weight yarn (no change in gauge) and both patterns now decrease all the way to the crown.
