Victorian Raffia Scarf

About a decade ago, I released Victorian Raffia as a collaboration with Irish knit designer Kieran Foley. The two of us have split the proceeds of this pattern until this year, when I returned the digital rights to Kieran, keeping the print rights for myself. However, I then decided to stop producing/selling physical media, which means that this is the end of the road for Victorian Raffia income for me.

A long time ago, someone asked me how much I'd sell the finished scarf for. At the time, I calculated the average time it took me to work a row, multiplied it by the number of rows in the pattern, figured how many hours it'd taken me to knit, and multiplied that by a fair wage. I then doubled it, because to sell my first and only sample would mean I would need to knit another one. At that point, the amount I came up with was around $10,000. This was mostly an exercise in showing the value of knitted work, not a serious offer to sell the piece.

However, as I retire this pattern from my stable, I no longer have a need for the sample, or to make another one. Instead, I am offering the original Victorian Raffia scarf for sale to one lucky supporter who wants to own an item of incredible rarity — a piece hand-knitted by me, Alasdair Post-Quinn. Read more about this piece's history on this blog post.

The scarf will come in a custom-sized wooden box with a certificate of authenticity. Insured shipping within the US is free (use the coupon VRFREE); if you are from another country please contact me before purchasing to make sure shipping options are available.
